WK10 Instant Air-b-n-b Scheme Design

The process of making the transformer model was not very smooth at the beginning. It needs to be strong so that people can read and rest on it. It needs to be powerful, with blueprints, coffee cups, handouts, and umbrellas. It needs to be light and convenient for people to carry around.

The first prototype is just a simple framework, so it can be split and put in the package. However, in order to make it easy for people to split and assemble, the nodes are not very stable. At the same time, it fails to meet more needs and functions of users.

The second prototype added a lot of details and functions and added layers to divide the storage space of different sizes. A small space can be used to store manuals and stationery, a larger space can be used to store books and sundries, and a separate storage board can be used to store coffee or mineral water bottles.

The third prototype is optimized and improved again for portability. The set handle is convenient for people to move and carry at any time. At the same time, the handle can be hung with a rope, similar to the shoulder strap of a schoolbag, so it is very convenient for people to carry and travel.

WK09 Instant Air-b-n-b Concept Design

The picture room is a small space with an area of only 7 square meters. But this space is characterized by a high floor height of about 6m, and the walls are covered with artists’ paintings. When we are in a picture room trying to watch paintings in a higher position, it is always very hard, because people have to lift their necks to be able to see clearly, so will children have more trouble? In the picture room, there are always many architectural students coming to draw and collect inspiration. I find that they often sit on the floor. Are there any ways to make them more comfortable in this space?

With the concept of the puzzle, I want to make a transformer. People can sit or stand on transformers to watch these paintings, and change their viewing angle. At the same time, transformers have powerful functions. The laminates divide the space into small spaces of different sizes. Some of these spaces can be used for Museum brochures, the introduction of artists’ paintings, coffee cups, sketchbooks, stationery, etc. All parts are modular. These standard modules can be customized in the factory in advance and assembled by hand. It’s as convenient as if you went to IKEA to pick outboards and assemble furniture. Users can choose different laminates according to their own needs, and the size of the compartment can also be customized flexibly. In order to adapt to the needs of different groups of people.

WK08 Instant Air-b-n-b Case Study & Inspiration

Everything about Sir John Soane’s museum is amazing. Picture room as my project site, I have to make my works fit the site itself to make my project more convincing. In the beginning, I didn’t rush to think about the concept of the scheme. I researched more about the space of the picture room. I found that the space design of the picture room is very special, and there is a rotating axis on the wall. Through this rotatable axis, the movement of the wall makes the space more possible. Through the movement of the wall, you can flexibly switch the paintings on the back wall.

The walls can be rotated flexibly so that the original small picture room can display more paintings. Deformed, flexible and interesting ideas remind me of childhood game puzzles and building blocks. Puzzles and blocks have the flexibility to be split and reassembled. It can be changed into various shapes through the assembly. It became the source of my original inspiration. I have found some reference cases that can meet my needs. These cases all use the principle of building block assembly. Without screws or machinery, people can assemble by hand. The way of assembly can be changed flexibly according to people’s interests.

I want to do a project, a guy who can assemble flexibly. It can provide people with rest and entertainment in the picture room, and people can take it out. So i call my project “Transformers”.

WK07 Instant Air-b-n-b Study Visit London

In the busy course, we ended a teamwork project. At the same time, a new personal project started. The name of this project is air-b-n-b. in this project, our tutor gave me an interesting and challenging task. We need to be able to provide users with the characteristics of portability while resting and leisure, and at the same time need to be associated with our site. A new survey tour of London began. In the Soane Museum, different groups are divided according to different functional spaces. What I divided into is the No.4 picture room.

Sir John Soane is a famous British architect, famous for his neoclassical architectural design. Most of his buildings are famous for their simple and bright lines, nearly perfect symmetry and excellent use of light and shadow lines. The architectural style influenced by him continued throughout the late period of King George’s time until the rise of Gothic Revival architecture in the 19th century. As one of the greatest architects in British history, Sir John Soane’s works enjoy a high reputation in the industry. The legendary architect’s home is located in central London, designed and built by Sir John Soane himself.

There are thousands of sculptures and paintings on display in the museum. In addition to the master’s living rooms, almost all the walls are covered with his collection of sculpture parts. The picture room is not only the site of my air-b-n-b project but also my favorite space in the whole building. The studio contains some of Sir John Thorne’s most valuable works of art, including the masterpieces of Hogarth, Canaletto, Turner, and Piranesi. Soane used a mobile “picture plane” to let him hang 118 pictures in a 13 by 12-foot small room, a collection large enough to hold a room three times the size.

Sir John Soane’s museum is the smallest National Museum in the UK. In this small ordinary house, I strolled for two hours, but I still couldn’t help but exclaim that this is the holy temple for architecture students to come to study. We can study from ancient Egypt to the era of Soane here. The artistic value of these collections spanning thousands of years has far exceeded the house itself.

Experiences of the pre-sessional course

The five weeks of pre-session courser will be an unforgettable time in my life. I have made a lot of friends here, and the sparkles on these friends will encourage me to become a better self. In addition, I have met many excellent and creative students from whom I can see the potential and future of Chinese designers.

Pre-sessional courser is very busy and has a lot of homework. I often feel tremendous pressure. Potato chips are the best partner to accompany me in my homework and satisfy my taste buds. Through the study of these courses, my English ability to listen, speak, read and write has made great progress, which makes me very happy.

One of the assignments here has always been sketching, recording bits and pieces of ideas to form a record. By developing habits to record these thoughts, I became more and more sensitive to the things around me and more active in exploring the interesting things in life. Design comes from life, which is the best way to grasp inspiration.

More than a month’s time is fleeting. I remember my nervousness and uneasiness when I first arrived at school. Now the course is over in a twinkling of an eye. Thank the members of the group for their hard work during this period. Thank you, Tutor Jeff. I often ask you questions. You always answer with patience. Thank you. Jeff is a very humorous and confident tutor. You will never feel bored in his class. The pre-session courser course is coming to an end. I wish all of us a better future!

Project4 · My main course research

Thomas Herzog designed the exhibition hall No. 26 of Hanover World Expo in Germany. The design aims to embody the three themes of the Expo, namely “human, nature, science and technology”. The 220m long and 116m wide exhibition center is designed as three units, consisting of three huge steel frames and suspended roof structures. The appearance of the exhibition hall is the product of the combination of the most advanced construction technology and the best environmental sustainable energy utilization, so it is known as one of the best trade exhibition halls in the world.

Grimshaw designed the famous Garden of Eden project, which is one of the largest greenhouses in the world and contains almost all the plants in the world. Covering an area of 150,000 square meters, the total length of the project is 858 meters, without any pillars in the middle. The design aims to build a plant landscape theme park around plant culture, which combines high-tech means and takes the theme of “symbiosis and integration of human and plant” as its theme. It has high scientific research and tourism value.

Foster designed the Frankfurt Commercial Bank Headquarters, the world’s first ecological skyscraper. The whole building is 298.74 meters high and has 53 floors. Foster has set up many aerial gardens in the building, effectively organizing the natural ventilation of office space. According to estimates, the natural ventilation volume of the building can reach 60%. Therefore, the building is called the “Tower of Ecology” and “Energy Mixer with Sky Garden”.

All three architects have made outstanding contributions to sustainable architecture. By studying the works of these three architects, I can improve my further understanding of sustainable architecture. Under the current environment background of deteriorating ecological environment, it is the responsibility of every designer to save energy, protect resources and realize the sustainable development of buildings.

Travels to London

London is the world’s largest international financial centre, as well as the largest economic centre in Europe. This August is my first visit to London. Before that, I had countless fantasies about London. London is a lively, open, retro and prosperous city that can accommodate all kinds of things. On the top floor of the Tate Gallery, I saw the tallest building in London, the Debris Tower, overlooking the Thames River.

The Debris Tower, designed by renowned architect Renzo Piano on the South Bank of London’s Thames, is 1017 feet tall and the second tallest building in Europe. At the foot of the Debris Tower is the Thames River. Every building and bridge along the Thames River is deeply engraved with the brand of the British wind. Some are natural and simple, some are modern and lingering.

Many parts of Baker Street are resting and scaffolding is everywhere, but leisurely Britons still drink coffee and read newspapers slowly under the pressure of many scaffolding. Even though the streets were noisy, the cafes were quietly playing soothing soft music, and people talked in low voices, as if everything outside had nothing to do with them.

Walking through the world-famous Baker Street is the most expensive Oxford Street in Britain.Oxford Street is crowded, like Nanjing West Road in Shanghai, where you can buy any brand you want, there are many fast fashion stores, such as Zara H&M, etc. The price is similar to Shanghai, fashionable style, is a perfect shopping paradise.

Shortly after stepping out of the London Bridge subway station, you will see the Borough Market sign, which will take about five minutes to follow the directions.

When we enter the gate, we enter an arch-shaped old passageway, as if we were in the world of Dickens’fiction, playing the drama of the daily life of the laborious civilians. Borough Market has many stalls and rich food. It consists of two areas, fresh and cooked. The seafood, rice and juice here are very delicious and satisfy our taste buds. Next time we come to London, we will want to come here to enjoy more delicious food.

Overall, London is fresh and diverse for me. In this year’s study abroad career, I will continue to explore this charming city. I love London.

Research at the Tate Museum

At the beginning of our second project, our tutor took us to the Tate Gallery. Tutor wants us to do research for our upcoming project in the Tate Gallery . The experience Tate Gallery brought to me was very pleasant and amazing. In this experience, I learned a lot and gained a lot.

Architectural features

The Tate Gallery was first opened to the public in 1897 when the official name was the National British Art Museum. Later, the museum was named after its founder, Henry Tate, and is now known as the Tate Museum of Art.

What attracts me most about the Tate Gallery is its architectural features. The Tate Museum of Modern Art, a masterpiece of Swiss architects, was rebuilt by an old power station on the Thames River. After the huge building space was transformed into a series of galleries, the turbines and generators were still exposed inside. Many critics believe that this is the best attempt to use industrial space to display art in the past few decades.

Artwork

The Tate Gallery is rich in exhibits. My classmates and I visited one exhibition area by one. What impressed me most was Media Network. CILDO MEIRELES. The sculpture consists of hundreds of radios, each of which is tuned to a different location. The concept of this work is related to the story of the Tower of Babel in the Bible, which is high enough to reach heaven. God was provoked by this structure, causing builders to speak in different languages. They can no longer understand each other, divide and disperse on the earth, and human conflicts begin.

What i have learnt ?

In the Tate Museum, I saw a lot of artists’different ways of expression, which gave me a better understanding of art. These artists use different materials and form different visual languages to convey their ideas to the audience. To be honest, some works of art do not surprise me very much from the simple visual aesthetics, which makes me begin to think that works of art are concerned with the expression of ideas, not the visual aesthetics. Like interior design, we should care more about the comfort of users than the aesthetic preference of commercial value.

The expectation in the future of chosen my school

After five years of work, I decided to return to the campus to study interior design, which is a brand new beginning for me, but also full of challenges. I have a lot of expectations for the upcoming learning journey, which makes me very excited.

UCA’s diversity and creativity are two advantages that attract me. UCA enrolls many foreign students from different countries and backgrounds every year. I am looking forward to sharing and cooperating with students from different countries. It will be a very exciting brainstorm. Different ideas are exchanged and collided together, which helps us to put forward more creative solutions in the research and implementation of the subject.

In addition, UCA has a lot of creative courses, there are many opportunities for on-site creation and work practice. I need to stimulate creativity to the maximum extent through various ways, and if I can quickly participate in some practical projects, it will be a very valuable learning experience for me. These experiences will help me become more competitive in my future career and help me to use a design perspective to solve problems.

All in all, in this year’s course learning, I hope to enhance the creative ability of design, understand the culture of different countries. What I am most looking forward to is the participation of practical projects, which will help me to explore more in-depth solutions in interior space design.

My first week in the UK at UCA

The first week of study is very stressful and exciting. At the beginning of the course, I felt a great pressure to learn, because it was the first time to listen to classes, communicate and finish homework in an English-speaking environment.

For me, living and studying in China for a long time, I was not able to keep pace with the rhythm, but at the same time, because of the full and busy learning life, I also felt full of tension and challenges.

In the course setting, the teacher shared a lot of tips to help us better adapt to UCA learning and British life. The curriculum covers a wide range of subjects, such as grammar, vocabulary, reading, listening, writing and so on. However, compared with the single knowledge transfer teaching in China, it pays more attention to the combination of flexibility and practice in UCA.

What interests me most is that the theme of art runs through the whole course. Tutor will put some TED videos of artists in the classroom to find out how these artists change the world with art zones and influence more people. To solve some problems from the perspective of art, at the same time, we have improved our English language ability. In group projects, we will go to museums together, go to libraries together to look up information, discuss in groups together, and do research together. This is really an exciting learning process.
After a week of study, I feel able to keep pace with the lesson. The learning environment here is open. When students have questions, tutor would like us to ask questions confidently and positively. Every day of study here is pleasant and full. Now I am looking forward to the beginning of the next project.
