Wk11 Design Development

Moving Expo project is a multi-technology installation exhibition hall. In this project, the designer uses the sustainable design concept of architecture, ergonomics, prefabricated technology, and multimedia system, and other elements. With the acceleration of social urbanization and the development of industrialization, the ecological environment has been greatly damaged. How the social development and ecological environment coexist harmoniously, how to let the building provide green space, is a problem faced by designers. The designer hopes that through the moving Expo project, more people will pay attention to and understand the impact of today’s climate change and environmental pollution.

Prefabricated technology is a way to realize the sustainable development of architecture. The designer designed the device as a separate unit that can be disassembled and assembled, which provides the possibility of the flexible site change. At the same time, as all the accessories are removable and reusable, the installation exhibition hall meets the requirements of sustainable design. Through projection equipment, curtain, and digital multimedia system, people can experience the change of scene and realize the interaction between people and devices. In this interactive process, the exhibition should arouse people’s awareness of protecting the ecological environment.

In the future, the sustainable development of buildings is the general trend. Prefabricated buildings are an effective way to achieve the sustainable design of buildings. The designer will continue to engage in office, hotel, and residential design, serve real estate developers and use prefabricated technology to develop more energy-saving and environmentally friendly new schemes and functions.

W10 Design Vision & Contribution

Through the sustainable prefabricated system, the exhibition hall of environmental protection education is built to let tourists experience climate change and space, and the exhibition hall is used as the medium to repair the gap between people and the ecological environment. With the rapid development of urbanization and the economy, the relationship between humans and resources and the environment has also appeared cracks. In this project, designers use a prefabricated system to build the exhibition hall, and designers ensure that the process from materials to on-site construction meets the concept of sustainable design. In the design of the exhibition hall, the projection system and curtain are the key points of our design. Designers need to use the projection to play environmental protection movies and sounds. Designers use the rapid assembly and construction of the exhibition hall to attract more environmentalists to participate in the activities of the exhibition hall.

The exhibition hall itself can be easily carried and reused, which not only reduces the cost but also makes more people realize that the exhibition hall can be so simple. Through this design, more environmental protection associations can use this exhibition hall system to make speeches and influence more people to participate in environmental protection activities. Designers use the prefabricated exhibition hall system to simulate different environmental scenes so that visitors can get a stronger immersive experience.

Wk9 Occupation and Interaction

The project site is located on the second floor of the Tate Modern Museum, a high-rise open space. The designer designed the functional layout and flow line of the exhibition. Designers showed how visitors interact with the exhibition installation in this space. In the exhibition installation, the designer uses the projection system and multimedia, through which it can display the contents of our exhibition in the form of video and music. The use of multiple senses of vision and hearing can bring tourists immersive experience. In the multimedia equipment, the designer has installed an infrared sensing device. When the tourists approach the device, the system can detect and play the movie, which can bring different scene experience to tourists. At the same time, there are several different parts of the film. People can switch between different parts of the video by waving their arms to get an interesting interactive experience. In this way, the designer attracts more people to participate in the projects and let tourists feel the impact of climate change and environmental pollution in the interaction between people and devices.

In addition, the whole plant exhibition hall is built by prefabricated construction technology, which is disassembled and assembled on site. Therefore, our project can be used repeatedly to meet the requirements of sustainable design. At the same time, the exhibition venue can be flexibly changed, not only in the Tate Modern Museum but also in Borough Market, shopping center, and art museum. The designer simulated how moving Expo is used and implemented in different scenes, which will be recorded in the film and finally displayed on the digital platform.

Wk8 Detail Design

The designer uses prefabricated technology to achieve sustainability and the frame of the whole installation is divided into two parts. The first part is the mainframe. The mainframe is designed as independent units, which restrict each other and are independent of each other. The size of each unit is standard and modular, which is convenient for production and field assembly. In the prototype testing stage, we use CAD to draw the plane of the unit, use cardboard to cut, and then use tape to replace the first connection of screws to test the stability of the overall frame. The designer uses two repeated frames, with an interval of 300 mm, which are connected by screws to maximize the stability of the body. In the treatment of the joints, designers use sketch up to make a semicircular structure with a diameter of 1.8m. In the size design of the device, designers pay close attention to ergonomics.

The designer finds that when people interact with the device closely, the best viewing angle is when the head is slightly upward. The second part is the use of a digital multimedia system, I designed a box and screen system that can store projection equipment. The curtain system is connected with the mainframe through a metal hook and finally plays the movie through the projection equipment. The designer integrates the visual angle and the sense of hearing into the design scheme so that the scene has a better sense of experience.

Wk7 Prototype Test & Making

In this project, the designer uses prefabricated technology to complete the main structure of the whole plant. We design the size of each unit as standard and modular, and each unit is standard 450mm. Designers use this size to form a triangle structure. Because the triangle has good stability, and the angle can be changed and controlled, it provides the possibility of deformation of our device. Designers use sustainable plastic, which is a recyclable material that’s very lightweight and people can move freely on their bodies. The first part of each unit is fixed and connected with screws, which is as simple as assembling a jigsaw. The designer uses digital multimedia systems, projection, and curtain equipment to play our designed movies so that people can have a powerfully immersive experience.

The part of the film is a very important part of our design. The film is unfolded in the way of storytelling, showing the extreme climate in two different environments, positive and negative. The designer simulated how the device interacts with visitors in several different scenarios. Because the whole device is detachable and wearable, the exhibition venue is flexible. It can be held not only in the Tate Modern Museum but also in shopping malls, borough markets, and art galleries. Different scene changes will be recorded by video as part of our final movie.

Wk6 Scheme Design

Our project is located on the second floor of the Tate Museum in London, which is an open space. To develop this project, the designer started to study and formulate our design objectives from three aspects: Prefabricated exhibition hall system, film story, and digital multimedia system. In this project, designers will develop a portable, mobile, and easily assembled prefabricated exhibition system with the theme of environmental protection story film, so that people can feel the impact of environmental change.

  1. The designer uses Prefabrication Technology to realize the sustainable design of the device exhibition hall. Every component of the device system is standard and modular, which can be quickly disassembled and installed. In this way, the project can achieve repeated and recyclable use
  2. The film is divided into two parts, and the film will be unfolded in the way of a narrative story. the designer record two extreme scenarios of positive and negative environmental and use the comparison of scenarios to strengthen the importance of environmental protection. At the same time, how to use moving Expo flexibly in different spaces is also recorded from the perspective of roaming
  3. The projection, sound, film, and other multimedia systems in the exhibition hall need to be well placed so that people can watch movies, hear sounds, and get comfortable sensory experience

Wk5 Prototyping and testing

The prefabricated device of transformers needs to meet the requirements of disassembly and assembly flexibility and portable performance. When designing the size, we need to consider the scale of the whole frame, which is in line with ergonomics. When it is fully unfolded, people can watch the film very comfortably, and after folding, it can be very light and convenient to carry. In addition, the device is composed of standard modular accessories, and each swivel is fixed by screws.

Element testing

The reason why we can change the structure of the triangle as a whole is very flexible and the performance of the triangle can be changed quickly.

Fixings and bracing

In the node processing interface, we choose to use screws and nuts. The cost of screws is very low, which is a conventional material in prefabricated accessories.

Cantilever tests

We reasonably calculated the size of each unit, so that the combination can minimize the volume, convenient for people to carry. In addition, when the whole device is deployed, the comfort degree of viewing angle is satisfied.

Overall form models

The overall model is a large-scale transformers, we use wood as our main material, because the wood has a good low-carbon performance, the sustainability of the device is one of the goals we are trying to achieve.

Wk4 Design Target

The change in the ecological environment is a major issue related to all people. Our project hopes to build a 4D Museum. In this design, we hope that tourists can get a powerfully immersive experience, and at the same time, they feel that people must act together. In this museum, we will use prefabricated installation system to build and simulate different scenes. The prefabricated installation system will be our main research object.

With the process of urbanization and the rapid development of economy, the relationship between human beings, resources and environment have also appeared cracks. Such cracks exist between small-scale environmental protection and large-scale industrial production of natural resources. In this design, people can experience the two extremes of the beautiful and damaged ecological environment and arouse people’s awareness of environmental protection. At the same time, cracks can also bring huge positive forces. Cracks can’t be ignored. They can make people forget the origin and history for a while to listen and communicate; work together to heal cracks; create new lives together to find better solutions.
